Maria Wine (efternamnet tog hon efter modern) började skriva på danska, inspirerad av Artur Lundkvist som hon träffat och gift sig med 1936. Sedan ett första bokmanus blivit refuserat övergick hon till svenska och debuterade med ett antal dikter i kalendern Horisont 1942. Tre år senare utkom den första diktsamlingen Vinden ur mörkret.

Cambria Estate grundades 1986 av Barbara Banke, då gift med den nu bortgångne men legendariske vingårdsägaren Jess Jackson. Egendomen ligger i Santa Maria, rakt norr om Santa Barbara, just där filmen Sideways utspelar sig. Och precis som i filmen så spelar pinot noir och chardonnay viktiga roller även på Cambria.
